A second life for stale bread
How to revive a loaf in 5 minutes and what to make with the rest.
1
Sprinkle a slightly stale loaf with water and warm it at 150–160 °C for 5–7 minutes — it's soft inside and crisp outside again. Eat it straight away.
2
Croutons: cube, drizzle with oil, salt and bake at 180 °C for 10–15 minutes — for soups and salads.
3
Breadcrumbs: dry the bread at 100–120 °C until crisp and blitz in a blender. They keep in a jar for months.
4
French toast, bread pudding, panzanella and meatballs with soaked bread — stale bread is even better in them than fresh.
