Soften butter for baking in 5 minutes
Forgot to take the butter out? Three ways without a microwave.
1
Grate cold butter on the coarse side of a grater — thin shreds soften in 3–5 minutes.
2
Or cut it into 1 cm cubes and spread them on a plate: in 15 minutes it's ready to cream.
3
The glass trick: fill a glass with boiling water for a minute, pour it out, dry it and cover the block of butter with it for 5 minutes.
4
A microwave melts butter unevenly — runny outside, cold inside. That butter is no good for frosting or shortcrust.
