Keep bananas yellow for longer
Separate them from the bunch and other fruit — and they won't blacken in two days.
1
Bananas give off ethylene, a gas that speeds ripening, mostly through their stems.
2
Split the bunch and wrap each stem in cling film.
3
Keep bananas away from apples, pears and avocados, or everything ripens faster.
4
Ripe bananas can go in the fridge: the skin darkens but the flesh stays pale and won't overripen for another 3–4 days.
