Wash the grater straight away — dried cheese sticks like glue.

Start with cold water: hot water melts cheese and smears it over the teeth.

Clean with a brush from the inside, away from the teeth, not with a sponge — sponges shred.

If the cheese has dried, grate a piece of raw potato or a bread crust: it pushes the remains out.
