Descale a kettle in one go
Citric acid works better than pricey descalers and costs pennies.

Pour 1 litre of water into the kettle and add 1–2 tbsp citric acid.

Boil and leave for 1–2 hours. Heavy scale dissolves; softer deposits come away in flakes.

Pour it out, wipe the inside with a soft sponge and rinse.

Boil a kettle of clean water once and discard it to remove any sour taste. Repeat monthly and scale won't build up.
