Salt and half a lemon clean wood better than any detergent.

Sprinkle the board with coarse salt and rub it with half a lemon, squeezing out the juice. The salt scrubs; the lemon lifts smells and stains.

Leave for 5 minutes, rinse with hot water and stand it upright to dry.

For stubborn stains, a paste of baking soda and water for 10 minutes.

Once a month rub a wooden board with food-grade mineral oil: it won't crack or absorb smells.
